Read MoreA Berber Village
A tiny Berber village just about an hour outside of Marrakech. We got to stop here for a little while during a desert tour. Being from the west, its hard to really get your head around how life happens here. There is no local running water, no vegetation, no electricity, no paved roads, no schools……none of what we consider to be the necessities of life. Yet the Berbers do very well…raising cattle, making carpets, honey, olive oil and pottery. You will see groups of women working together to bathe a child, carry water (for 5 miles on the back a donkey), bake bread in outdoor ovens, cook for each other. Its quite amazing. I guess we tend to focus on what the villagers DON’T have. But you also can’t help but see that they are happy, despite the difficult conditions they live by. It makes you wonder “Who is better off, really?”.

In the Medina
If you’ve ever wondered what the Morocco pavilion in Epcot is modeled after, this is it…….a busy shopping area in Marrakesh called the Medina. I don’t know if its actually called the Medina to locals……but thats what we called it. There isn’t much that you can’t buy here…….saffron, pistachio nougat, spices, clothing, chickens, cobras, light bulbs…… its kind of like Walmart, only hotter….and without the Christmas section.
