A popular view of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. This is from the Marin Headlands, just North of San Francisco. It was so windy that night that I had to lean against my tripod to keep it from blowing over.

St. Ignatius Church
This church is on the campus of the University of San Francisco and serves as the schools chapel. It not like any other church I have seen. Some of the pillars are Romanesque in design, but then you have all these bright colors adorning the roof. Whatever the design concept, it is beautiful and worth a visit when you are in the SF area.

Under the Santa Monica Pier
Just before sunset....under the pier in Santa Monica Beach. (Anyone know what 70's-80's TV show Intro was filmed on this pier?) I don't really know what the deal is with this little red boat (actually there are 3 of them), but it certainly did look cool sticking out of the sand like that.

Sunset in Santa Monica
This is a cool spot along the water in Santa Monica, CA. We’d had a day full of meetings and this was a really peaceful way to end it…..the sun had almost completely set, the pier lights had just snapped on…… and I pretty much had the beach to myself. Well, almost. All except for the group of bodybuilder dudes behind me………one was pulling a train car with his teeth……..and the other was wrestling something the size of a Grizzly Bear…..which, now that I think about it was probably another dude. I gave them the manliest head-nod that I could muster, and just went along on my way.

Sunset on Manhattan Beach
West Coast sunset...nothing like it. This was taken on Manhattan Beach, a little coastal town about 5 miles south of LAX. The pier is actually the oldest concrete pier on the West Coast. There is an acquarium at the end of it, and it's really popular with the fishing crowd who fight for position along the edge of the pier as the sun sets. This was early December and a family just off camera to my right had brought a Christmas tree to stand up and decorate on the beach for their family portraits. They even had presents to put under it....very ccol idea. I would love to see how their pictures came out.

LA Nights
I found this cool spot while driving around LA last night after a day of meetings. I barely had a chance to get my tripod set up when a bus showed up and gave me this cool set of light trails on the bridge to the left.

Union Station
I’m pretty certain that I wouldn’t get half the shots I do if I didn’t have such an awesome business partner. We had just finished up a day of meetings in LA and he was ready to get us to the airport when I hit him with “Umm… so, there is a really cool train station.”…and, as much as he wanted to get out of the onslaught of afternoon LA traffic, he kindly agreed. So we ended up here…Union Station. To be honest, I didn’t even know anything like this still existed. It’s like you stepped into a Cary Grant movie, where he is sitting at some old oak wooden bar drinking a Gibson (which probably sounds better than it tastes) and waiting to board a train with a cool name like “20th Century Limited”. A worker told me that it opened in 1939 with a ceremony that was attended by half a million people and, today, it is still the biggest train station in the western United States. Oh yeah, they have that whole “no tripod” rule, but there is enough light where you don’t really need one. They also seem to have a “can’t sit too long in those comfy chairs over at the right” rule. We never quite figured that one out.

Infinity
This is one of those shots that I really appreciate.....probably because it took so long before I got a chance to visit here. This is Scripps Pier in La Jolla, CA. Unlike most piers, this one isn't open to the public. It's used for stuff like boat launches and oceanographic experiments on the Pacific Ocean. But the really cool thing is that its like 1000 feet long and pretty much perfectly straight, so its like crack to photographers....and there were about 6 others with me...one dude from Russia, another from New Zealand, a couple of California boys and me, the lone represent from the East Coast.
