Basilique de Fourvière
So, check this place out. The Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière in Lyon, France. It's kind of like the unknown sister church of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris It sits way up on this hill so you can pretty much see it from anywhere in the city. And the nice thing is that is takes a pretty good hike to get to (well, you could also take a tram) so it isn't mobbed with tourists. I stayed in here for almost 2 hours taking photos....even with my tripod. At one point, the priest and I even struck up a conversation. Well, maybe it wasn't actually a conversation. I just nodded my head and smiled.....like I understood what he was saying.

Sacre Couer
There is this cool little artsy section of Paris called Montmartre. It's kind of like their version of Greenwich Village in NYC. Ask any local how to get there, and you get this sort of disappointed shrug.....they'll tell you how the place in now all touristy and just "isn't the same". It's essentially a big hill. and the Basilica de Sacre-Couer sits on top. Behind the Basilica is a labyrinth of cobblestone streets and little shops, where you can eat a bunch of great pastries and crepes, buy $12 dollar keychains ....or get suckered into letting some dude do a sketch of you for like $30. And then at the bottom of the hill, you can find find Moulin Rouge and a whole host of other similar shops that you can walk past and pretend to not look in. At least that's what I did.

Rain in the Faroe Islands
This was our last day on the Faroe Islands. It was cold, rainy, cold, and rainy. But it didn't slow us down....and we were rewarded with scenes like this. This church is called Saksunar Kirkja on the island of Streymoy

An Old Wooden Roof
This was shot inside the Olde Kerk (Old Church) in Amsterdam. The Dutch seem really relaxed about having photographers with tripods roaming about their places of worship, which is cool, cuz trying to hide a tripod under your jacket gets pretty old. Anyway, this place boasts the oldest wooden vaulted church in Western Europe. And I am sure it is the only church in Western Europe where you exit right into the Red Light District, which might mess up the fact that you went to church at all!!

Reflections of Lyon
Across the river from Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon) - There is so much cool stuff to say about this city that I wouldn't even know where to start. I spent most of my 2 days there just wandering around the old section, eating way too many pastries, and talking with chefs pâtissiers about the goodies that they were selling. It's only a few hundred miles from Paris but it totally worth the trip on the TGV to get there. Heck, at 200 mph, the TGV ride alone is worth the journey. Just make sure you get a window seat.

St. Alban's Church
St. Alban's Church, locally often referred to simply as the English Church, is an Anglican church in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was built from 1885 to 1887 for the growing English congregation in the city. It is in a peaceful park setting at the end of Amaliegade in the northern part of the city centre, next to the citadel Kastellet and the Gefion Fountain and Langelinie. It's also just a short walk to the LIttle Mermaid Statue

Nyhavn
This is likely the most photographed area of Copenhagen. I was here on a late afternoon in March, so it was still quite cold and most of the boats were covered up. The restaurants actually give out blankets so you can still dine outside. Anywhere you stand, it is a beautiful scene.

St. Ignatius Church
This church is on the campus of the University of San Francisco and serves as the schools chapel. It not like any other church I have seen. Some of the pillars are Romanesque in design, but then you have all these bright colors adorning the roof. Whatever the design concept, it is beautiful and worth a visit when you are in the SF area.

Old Saint Mary's Catholic Church - Detroit, Michigan
This church is amazing. Not only the church's interior is gorgeous, the church itself has an amazing history over 200 years with 2 restorations. Needless to say, this is the most prominent Catholic church around.

The Marble Church
The inside of this church is just breaktaking. To be honest, I didn't even know it was a church from the outside. But I am certainly glad that I was inside to explore. I think I read that it is the largest domed church in Scandinavia.

Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar
The first recorded mention of this church was in 988, making this one of the oldest places you will ever get the pleasure of seeing. It's right in the middle of the Gothic section of Barcelona.....kind of hidden in this little square. You can't really get a good sense of the size of this place till you go in. There isn't any fancy artwork, but it has an amazingly cozy feeling to it. It was the favorite church of most of the folks I was traveling with.

Almudena Cathedral
A grand cathedral in the heart of Madrid. The exterior doesn't really do justice to what waits inside. The architecture is sort of Gothic in nature but, inside, the art, wood, metals, painted surfaces in vibrant colors and the modernistic stained glass windows just burst to life. This shoudl go on your must-see list in Madrid.

Not sure what to say about this place. This is Antoni Gaudi's shining star. It has been referred to as the most extraordinary interpretation of Gothic architecture since the MIddle Ages. But, however you define it, it is amazing. The color, shapes and light....always changing yet alway beautiful.

Copenhagen at Night
Copenhagen has definitely moved into my favorite cities list. On the night I was there, I wanted to find a good sunset spot. One of the locals told me about the 17th century Trinitatis Church. For a small fee, you can climb the Round Tower, which leads to this amazing observation area. It was pretty cold, but the sunset made it worth the climb.
