A Berber Village
A tiny Berber village just about an hour outside of Marrakech. We got to stop here for a little while during a desert tour. Being from the west, its hard to really get your head around how life happens here. There is no local running water, no vegetation, no electricity, no paved roads, no schools……none of what we consider to be the necessities of life. Yet the Berbers do very well…raising cattle, making carpets, honey, olive oil and pottery. You will see groups of women working together to bathe a child, carry water (for 5 miles on the back a donkey), bake bread in outdoor ovens, cook for each other. Its quite amazing. I guess we tend to focus on what the villagers DON’T have. But you also can’t help but see that they are happy, despite the difficult conditions they live by. It makes you wonder “Who is better off, really?”.
